There really is no substitute for first-hand experience:   the feel of the city, the sights and smells of the marketplaces, the sound of church bells mingling with the call of the muezzin – and also the daily hassles of living behind the Wall, traveling through checkpoints, and feeling the surrounding Israeli settlements bearing down on the city of Bethlehem
