BETHLEHEM INTERNATIONAL MUSIC FESTIVAL
Children 21 is a
project that aims at inviting outstanding children's choirs and
musical groups from different cultural, religious, and national
backgrounds to participate in the Bethlehem International Music
Festival in October 2001.
The idea of the
festival is to invite 12 children musical groups, 6 from the
Middle East region and 6 from the EU countries, to perform both
separately as well as jointly. Through 10 workshops, the different
national groups will introduce their land and culture through
musical performances to be given to the other participants of the
festival. They also will share music and tunes on different
historical sites in Palestine, then give a joint grand concert to
celebrate the unity of the humankind through the diversity of
their cultures to the public of Palestine. This unique festival
will be documented through a booklet, a CD and a Video so that in
other parts of the world, children can partake in this wonderful
event.
It is our conviction
that in the 21st century, we need a new generation who
can share a common language, and who is capable of communicating
across borders and contexts. We believe that music can be a
creative tool, a unifying language, and a medium for intercultural
interaction.
