Authentic Tourism:
Land, Culture & People
Nearly 2 million people
visit the Holy Land every year. Although 85% of them are Christians,
less than half visit the West Bank for more than 2 hours. Many run
where Jesus walked, looking for ancient stones, while missing the
current realities.
Guided by a new
theology of pilgrimage, the Authentic Tourism program was developed by
the ICB. It is a socially responsible travel offering a holistic
approach to visiting the Holy Land. The ICB’s Authentic Tourism
Program was internationally recognized for its efforts in 1997 at the
International Tourism Exchange in Berlin, Germany by being given the
“TODO! 96” Award.
The program offers
pilgrims opportunities to:
-
Visit
the ancient stones, while listening to authentic, personal
narratives
-
Engage
in the spiritual life present in Palestine
-
Experience living cultures
-
Witness local Christian ministries of healing and hope
-
Join
in servant opportunities for work and prayer
-
Explore the original context of the Bible
-
Support economic development in Palestine.
Visiting
individuals and groups have the opportunity to stay at
Abu Gubran Guest
House
within the Christmas Lutheran Church compound. It
consists of 13 double rooms.
