ICB Computer Center
Enhancing Computer Skills

Part of the ICB’s continuous commitments to training future leaders and developing human resources are the programs held at the Computer Center.

One of such programs was the computer training conducted by the Information Technology and Communications Department at the ICB for employees of local organizations.

The training program originated with the objective: maximize effectiveness through optimal use of computers and Internet; was designed to train and encourage participants to apply computer skills which can introduce them to new work opportunities created by tools of electronic communication and computer applications.

Twenty employees from the various local organizations and ICB, participated in the training program which consisted of four workshops on the following topics;

  1. Network, Security, Internet, and Email Programs
  2. Web Site Design
  3. Microsoft Word
  4. Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint

In each of the workshops, trainees were provided with printed copies containing step-by-step instructions that can be used as references. The workshops consisted of presentations of topics and discussions of applicable examples, as well as sufficient time and instruction to practice the material presented.

Moreover and as a follow up, the training team at the ICB will continue to offer the participating local organizations technical help and support for a period of 6 months following the training.

One of the major difficulties encountered during the program, were the delays caused by the holdups of participants from Jerusalem at the Israeli check-point while commuting to Bethlehem for the training workshops. In addition, we had to postpone one of the workshops when the participants from Jerusalem were denied passage into Bethlehem.

Nonetheless, the success of the training program has been evident through the evaluation forms and feedback from the participants, indicating the effective implementation of the computer training they have received to benefit the work of their organizations. In addition, a schedule has been set for regular communication and feedback from the participants on their new usage statistics. Such data will be used for evaluation through comparisons between computer application usage time and abilities before and after participating in the program.
Moreover, a database has been set up for record keeping of support requests and questions, in order to better plan and assess future training needs.

The ICB continues to offer IT and communications training to the community through various courses for women, children, and employees. In addition, ICB plans to start, in June, a training program for school teachers preparing them to sit for the 7-stage International Computer Driving License test.
