Inger Jonasson: A new Co-worker at ICB

This is my third week as an Art Coordinator working together with Faten Nastas Mitwasi at ICB. I’m gradually adapting to the different tasks and I’m glad to do what I do and to be here.

I come from Sweden and there I was working as Secretary for International Non-Formal Adult Education at the Church of Sweden National Office in Uppsala. One of my responsibilities was International Guests visiting Sweden. I also have experience with artwork such as ceramics, weaving, vegetable-dye of wool, spinning, water-color and oil painting in two Art Schools.

I have two grown-up children left in Sweden and as family we used to live in Beit Sahour from 1980 - 85 working with the Lutheran Church. My husband Kjell who is an ordained priest is now back working closely with Bishop Munib Younan and also at the Swedish Theological Institute in Jerusalem. We hope to stay here for two years.

I was present when Al Khaf Arts and Crafts Workshop was inaugurated 1999 and in April 2000 I was back giving a short course in frame-weaving. I’m impressed with the progress and achievements of the ICB during these years, especially knowing the hard times that people in Bethlehem has gone through. I think the ICB has an important role to play in the Palestinian society. I also believe that creating fulfills a deep need for the soul, it heals and makes the human being more human. I’m glad that the Church of Sweden is able to support the centre
