”Sincerely Barbara” Art Exhibition at Al Kahf Gallery
On April 22, 2004, Al Kahf Gallery opened the exhibition “Sincerely Barbara”
by contemporary artist Barbara Guttman from Szerbia and Montenegro/Hungary, now
living in Hungary.
The exhibition consists of 43 painted cards dedicated to her friend from the
Betzalel Academy, Faten Nastas, who is currently the Art Coordinator at ICB. The
cards which were sent to Faten during the last year are hanging in a visual way
in the Gallery on lines like clothes hanging to dry. In this way the visitors
are able to see and read both sides of the cards.
Even though these postcards have personal messages and a special intimacy due to
the fact that it’s between two friends, they are not dedicated to Faten only but
to all the people suffering from the horrors of war and injustice, and they are
in a way a call for peace which begins in our hearts.
Barbara believes that these greeting cards and correspondence can address and
warm the hearts of other Palestinians sharing the similar everyday struggles,
fears and sadness. For they express human emotions and experiences that is true
for most people.
Barbara Guttman got her B.F.A from Betzalel Academy of Arts And Design in
Jerusalem. She is presently working on her PhD degree of painting at the
University of Pcs in Hungary where she is living. She has exhibited
installations and performances in many places like Jerusalem, Serbia, Croatia
and in Hungary.
